How to make Pu Erh tea from a cake

Step 1: Preparation & Tools

  • Tea Cake

    Teapot (cast iron/purion)

    Tea Knife

    Digital Kettle

    Digital Scales

    Timer/Watch

    Serving Vessel

Step 2: Split Tea Cake

5-10 min

  • Gently work knife into side of tea cake; once dislodoged, seperate into two halves.

    This may take a few attempts, so please take your time as you want the leaves to loosen gently and not get damaged to protect their structure.

    Once loosend, carefully pull the cake apart.

Step 3: Temperature & Weigh

  • Heat the kettle to the desired temperature then pre-heat all the utensils (pots and cups), then discard water.

    Pull a portion of tea from the seperated cake and weigh the correct amount of puerh recommended.

Step 4: Wash & Infuse

  • Place pre-weighed puerh tea leaves into the pot, add a dash of hot water to wash and awaken, pour out the tea liqor immediately to discard.

    Pour over the pre-heated water again and steep for the recommended time.

    Note: You can repeat this process multiple times, typically by adding 10 seconds to each infusion

Serve

  • Once the infusion time has finished, separate the leaves from the tea liquor by straining into a serving vessel or immediately into a cup.
