About
Somage Matcha
Our Matcha Collection covers all grades from everyday culinary to rare ceremonial, all sourced directly from the farm. Each powder is carefully crafted to highlight the natural umami, depth, and bright green character of premium matcha. Whether whisked with water or blended into recipes, it delivers a clean, vibrant flavour with smooth texture and lasting finish.
Matcha 03
This ceremonial matcha is a carefully crafted blend of first flush leaves from the Saemidori and Yabukita cultivars, meticulously blended by a tea master in Kagoshima. It offers a vibrant green colour and a refined aroma, with a silky, delicate texture on the palate. The flavour is clean and balanced, unfolding with notes of seaweed, toasted nut, and a pure, lingering finish. Each bowl reflects the precision and care behind its making, inviting a quiet moment of focus and appreciation.
Organic Certified
Organic matcha is grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers, following strict organic certification standards like JAS, USDA and ACO. The tea plants are cultivated in healthy, chemical-free soil and shaded before harvest to naturally enhance their flavour and colour. Every batch is tested for safety and quality, ensuring a clean, vibrant matcha that’s better for both the body and the environment.

Origin, about the farm
Kagoshima, Japan
Located at the southern tip of Kyushu, Kagoshima is one of Japan’s southernmost prefectures. The region enjoys a nearly subtropical climate, with warm ocean breezes that create mild, comfortable conditions year-round. Shaped by a long history of volcanic activity, much of the land is covered in volcanic ash known as shirasu, which enriches the soil with essential minerals and supports the area’s thriving agriculture.
The farm
Established in 1933, the farm is one of Japan’s leading producers of matcha, known for its long-standing dedication to quality and refinement. Before harvest, the tea fields are shaded for two to three weeks to enhance flavour and aroma. The freshly picked leaves are then finely ground using modern ball mills. The careful selection of cultivars, shading methods and precise grinding techniques all come together to create the distinct depth and quality of our organic matcha.

Health
Matcha Benefits
Unlike loose leaf green tea, matcha involves consuming the entire powdered leaf, offering the full spectrum of its benefits. It is especially rich in antioxidants and L-theanine, an amino acid primarily found in tea leaves.
Catechins
Catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), are a type of antioxidant that help protect cells from oxidative stress and support overall health. They are known for their anti-inflammatory and immune-supportive properties, contributing to matcha’s role as a functional, health-promoting beverage.
L-theanine
L-theanine is known for its calming and focus-enhancing properties. When combined with caffeine, as found naturally in matcha, it provides a gentle and sustained energy lift without the jitters or crash often associated with coffee. This unique pairing promotes a state of alert relaxation, supporting mental clarity and focus.
