Why You’ll Love This Product

About
Somage Matcha
Our Matcha Collection covers all grades from everyday culinary to rare ceremonial, all sourced directly from the farm. Each powder is carefully crafted to highlight the natural umami, depth, and bright green character of premium matcha. Whether whisked with water or blended into recipes, it delivers a clean, vibrant flavour with smooth texture and lasting finish.
Matcha 02
This exquisite blend combines ceremonial-grade first flush matchas from Shizuoka, Japan, crafted to elevate your tea ritual. The Tsuyuhikari leaves are carefully harvested during the first flush of early spring and grown using the World Agricultural Heritage method in pristine volcanic soil. The vibrant green powder offers a silky texture and reveals layered umami, creamy mid-palate notes, and refined nuttiness with an elegant finish. Developed in-house, this blend reflects our dedication to flavour integrity, ingredient transparency, and craftsmanship.
Organic Certified
Organic matcha is grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers, following strict organic certification standards like JAS, USDA and ACO. The tea plants are cultivated in healthy, chemical-free soil and shaded before harvest to naturally enhance their flavour and colour. Every batch is tested for safety and quality, ensuring a clean, vibrant matcha that’s better for both the body and the environment.

Origin, about the farm
Shizuoka, Japan
Shizuoka Prefecture is located on the southern coast of Honshu, Japan’s main island, just below Mount Fuji. It is one of Japan’s most renowned tea-growing regions, with nutrient-rich volcanic soil and clean rivers that sustain healthy tea cultivation. While the warm coastal climate ensures stable growing conditions, the surrounding mountainous terrain brings larger temperature differences between day and night. These fluctuations slow the growth of tea bushes, allowing them to photosynthesise during the day and rest in the cool night air. This gradual growth helps concentrate flavour, resulting in a naturally sweet and full-bodied matcha unique to the Shizuoka region.
The Farm
The farm has a legacy of over 120 years and is dedicated to fully organic cultivation in accordance with JAS standards. Before harvest, the tea bushes are carefully shaded for two to three weeks, a traditional method used to concentrate flavour, aroma, and colour. After harvesting, only the tenderest leaves are selected and slowly stone-ground into a fine powder. From the choice of cultivar to the shading technique and milling process, every step is thoughtfully executed to preserve the integrity and depth of our organic matcha.

Health
Matcha Benefits
Unlike loose leaf green tea, matcha involves consuming the entire powdered leaf, offering the full spectrum of its benefits. It is especially rich in antioxidants and L-theanine, an amino acid primarily found in tea leaves.
Catechins
Catechins, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), are a type of antioxidant that help protect cells from oxidative stress and support overall health. They are known for their anti-inflammatory and immune-supportive properties, contributing to matcha’s role as a functional, health-promoting beverage.
L-theanine
L-theanine is known for its calming and focus-enhancing properties. When combined with caffeine, as found naturally in matcha, it provides a gentle and sustained energy lift without the jitters or crash often associated with coffee. This unique pairing promotes a state of alert relaxation, supporting mental clarity and focus.
